ALL PLAYER STATS ANALYSIS 2005-2017

A summary of all the top player and position stats up to 2017 for all you Stat nerds (See attached) - mostly as a check on how things have changed esp. in light of all the Ruck angst of late.

 

• All stats re-scored to todays method (ie; 5 pts per tackle, Studs calculated for all years with no HO’s…)

• Minm 5 games per player per year

• Excluded top Rucks and Fwds from the other stats (as assumed that they would be played as a Rk or Fwd)

Points;

• Mkrs haven’t changed much in 13 yrs

• Fwds the only spot to go down (marginally)

• Rucks up 70%!! With a big jump from 30 to 35pts from 2016-2017 – in 2011 NO rkman averaged >40, in 2017 there were 5 >40

• Tacklers up 60%

• Gives all position ratios relative to the average of the 3 MID scores in 2017 (26.5)

• Implies that TACKS shld be 4x (Not 5x)

• Mkrs should be 4x as well

• Both these positions average ~7 stats per week

• Equating them both to 4x will open up the field, lessen the reliance on Tacklers and increase the importance of Mkrs

• Rucks Points theoretically should be reduced by 20%
